NEcOLEAP’s Presentation Day Showcased the Path to a Carbon-Neutral Shipyard

Article 1.11.2024

Last Friday on October 25, Meyer Turku held an internal presentation day where project managers of NEcOLEAP’s Shipyard and People clusters displayed the goals and achievements of their projects so far. The day offered insights into the various R&D initiatives aiming for a carbon-neutral shipyard by 2030.

NEcOLEAP’s Shipyard and People clusters include 21 ongoing projects, which are researching ways to improve or optimize for example…

  • …energy efficiency of the shipyard’s buildings and operations
  • …use of steel
  • …logistics and inventory management
  • …air quality in component assembly and block assembly halls
  • …biodiversity of the shipyard area
  • …the shipyard’s social responsibility.

Collaboration towards a carbon-neutral shipyard

With the help of NEcOLEAP’s extensive partner ecosystem, Meyer Turku is developing both a climate-neutral cruise ship concept and a carbon-neutral shipyard. The program will continue until the end of 2025.

NEcOLEAP projects thus have one more year for research and development before the program concludes. Many projects have already made significant progress and achieved remarkable results, which were applauded during the presentation day.

“This presentation day highlighted the dedication and strong collaboration within our teams. It is inspiring to see how experts from various fields have combined their expertise to achieve our sustainability goals”, states Jenny Lauronen, the manager of NEcOLEAP’s Shipyard and People project portfolio.

The presentation day was held in a hybrid format, with approximately 60 participants attending both on-site and via Teams. We want to thank everyone who participated in the presentation day!
